Chinese New Year non-working holiday
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has declared Feb. 16, Chinese New Year, a special non-working holiday.
Chinese New Year is one of the special non-working days listed in Proclamation No. 269 issued by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on July 17, 2017.
The proclamation noted that Chinese all over the world celebrate Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, on Feb. 16.
It described the occasion as “one of the most revered and festive events celebrated not only in China but also in the Philippines.”
Other special non-working days are the anniversary of the 1986 People Power Revolution (Feb. 25), Black Saturday (March 31), Ninoy Aquino Day (Aug. 21), All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1), All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2), Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) and New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31).
The regular holidays for this year are New Year’s Day (Jan. 1), Maundy Thursday (March 29), Good Friday (March 30), Araw ng Kagitingan (April 9), Labor Day (May 1), Independence Day (June 12), National Heroes’ Day (Aug. 27), Bonifacio Day (Nov. 30), Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and Rizal Day (Dec. 30).
