Chiz concedes, prefers Leni to win VP race

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero on Tuesday has accepted defeat in the vice presidential race as he ranks fourth in the partial, unofficial tallies of the Commission on Elections.

Escudero, however, said that he prefers a "kababayan" to win the vice presidential race, referring to Camarines Sur Rep. Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo.

The senator added hat he expects a tight race for the vice presidency, particularly between Sen. Bongbong Marcos and Robredo.

"Kada presinto at bayan magkakaroon ng halaga bigla," Escudero said at a press conference.

Escudero said that he is looking forward to "quieter times" now that the election is over.

As of 9:10 a.m., Robredo has garnered 13,251,341 votes, according to the partial and unofficial tally by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting. On the other hand, Marcos has registered 13,124,911 votes.
