Duterte to backers: Wait until Oct. 15

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Will he, or won’t he?

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte advised his supporters as well as the curious to just wait for his answer on Oct.15.

“Wait till I get to Manila on Oct. 15,” Duterte told reporters at a press conference Friday night at the Marco Polo Hotel here.

Duterte said that people would know the real score if he shows up at the Commission on Elections office in Manila to file his certificate of candidacy.

“Until now I have not found my soul yet,” the mayor quipped.

Duterte brushed aside reports he would definitely declare his bid for the presidency anytime before the Oct. 16 deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy.

The mayor has been coy about his political plans by repeatedly saying he is not interested in the presidency as his family is staunchly against it, especially his daughter and former mayor Sara.

Despite his constant denial of his presidential interest, Duterte has been meeting with various political personalities, including those from the PDP-Laban.

“Running for president is all about money, money, money. For how could you run for president if you do not have the money? And I do not have the money,” he said.

Duterte said he is not in the habit of asking money from political supporters ever since he first ran for mayor in 1988.

He said certain groups fund his campaign without his asking anything from them.
