Lawmaker backs Binay-Roxas in 2016

MANILA, Philippines - A pro-administration lawmaker backed yesterday the proposed tandem of Vice President Jejomar Binay and Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II in the 2016 polls.

Parañaque Rep. Gustavo Tambunting said reports that Binay was open to asking Roxas to be his vice presidential running mate in 2016  were “a good objective” as it would foster unity among the country’s political leaders.

Speaking to reporters Sunday, Binay said: “Don’t laugh, I’m serious. Gusto ko sana si (I wish it’s) Mar Roxas,” when asked about his possible runningmate in the elections.

He has a long list of possible running mates to consider, “but number one in the list is Sec. Roxas,” he added.

Binay said Roxas was his choice because he wants to have “unity of leaders” in the country.

“That is included in my dreams when I become president,” he said. “I am leaving a legacy that I was a unifying factor.”
