CBCP, group produce documentary on Pope Francis visit

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has teamed up with Jesuit Communications (JesCom) to produce a two-hour documentary on the five-day visit of Pope Francis last Jan. 15 to 19.

CBCPNews reported that the documentary, which would be shown nationwide, premiered yesterday on 9TV at 7 p.m.

Replays will also be shown on ANC tomorrow from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on ABS-CBN on April 4, Black Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Social Communications and JesCom said the film captures and retells some of the most significant and poignant moments of Pope Francis’ pastoral and state trip to the country through the eyes of those who patiently waited, lovingly prepared and wholeheartedly took part in the events that unfolded during those four days.

The documentary, titled “Mabuhay, Lolo Kiko: Pagsulyap sa Pagbisita ng Santo Papa sa Pilipinas,” shows how the theme “Mercy and Compassion” was embodied and lived out by the faithful.

According to JesCom, the documentary focuses on the emerging image of Pope Francis as an “Alter Christus” (Another Christ), one who lovingly personifies the Good Shepherd and whose voice is recognized not only by his own flock but also by others, including those who have gone astray.

The Argentine pontiff’s humble and reconciliatory attitude has earned him countless admirers, even among non-Catholics.

The 78-year-old pope is a Jesuit.

In a world torn by conflict, the pontiff has brought about healing on many adversarial issues and relationships within and outside the church.

The Philippines, being the third largest Catholic nation, with a flock of over 75 million people, is considered a beacon of faith, especially in Asia.

This is so because Filipinos, despite migrating to other countries, continue to observe the rites and traditions of the church in their host countries.
