AirAsia flight overshoots Kalibo runway

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - An AirAsia Zest plane with 159 passengers and crew on board overshot the Kalibo runway yesterday afternoon upon landing from Manila.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said the Airbus 320 type aircraft of AirAsia Zest landed and overshot the runway at 5:43 p.m. and immediately suspended the landing and takeoff of all kinds of aircraft on runway 23.

CAAP said the passengers and crew used the inflatable shoot to deplane as the front gear of the aircraft got stuck at the end of the soft grassy portion of the runway due to rains brought by Tropical Storm Seniang.

CAAP identified the pilots as Capt. Achilles Narajos and First Officer Miguel Halagueña. Passengers and crew were immediately brought to the Kalibo terminal for medical check-up.

Kalibo was one of the provinces hit by Seniang as Cebu Pacific canceled its flights in the area.

Fourteen domestic flights were canceled yesterday due to  Seniang, Media Affairs Division head Connie Bungag said.
