8 dead, 7 hurt in Cotabato car accident

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Eight people were killed and seven others injured in a car accident in South Cotabato, police said today.

South Cotabato Provincial Police Office said that a passenger van and a private vehicle coming from opposite directions collided on Friday afternoon along the national highway in Rizal Poblacion village, Banga town.

Three people from the van and five from the private car were killed, including the drivers of both vehicles.

Those injured, five from the van and two from the other vehicle, were rushed to different hospitals for treatment.

Police said investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
