Phl remains vigilant after nurse cleared from MERS-CoV

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The authorities continue to be vigilant even if the nurse, who was initially reported to be positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome- Corona Virus (MERS-CoV), has been cleared from the deadly virus, a senior government official said today.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that health officials continue to monitor the country's major airports to ensure that all those who are arriving in the country are not carrying any dreaded diseases, which could also endanger the lives of the Filipinos.

He thanked the public for extending their cooperation with the government in really making sure that MERS-CoV and other fatal viruses would not spread in the country.   
"For this kind of sickness, we ask always for your cooperation and you have always extended your cooperation to the government because this is something that redounds to the benefit of the entire people," Lacierda said over a state-run radio station.

The nurse who was now cleared from MERS-CoV came from Saudi Arabia.

The nurse was the second overseas Filipino worker who was initially tested positive for MERS-CoV when still in their host countries in the Middle East, but were later cleared from the sickness after confinement and monitoring in the country.
