Ex-SC Justice, Corona lawyer Serafin Cuevas passes away

MANILA, Philippines - Retired Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas passed away last night, February 9.

The SC Public Information Office (SC PIO) announced this in its Twitter account on Monday morning.

Cuevas was 85.

The SC PIO said the details of his wake will be announced. The Philippine flag at the SC quadrangle will be at half-mast.

Cuevas, a product of the University of the Philippines College of Law, was the high court's 106th associate justice.

He served from June 1, 1984 to April 16, 1986.

Cuevas was the lead defense counsel in the impeachment trial of former SC Chief Justice Renato Corona in 2012.

The former SC justice was also one of the lawyers of former Pres. Joseph Estrada during his impeachment trial in 2001.
