PHLPost issues stamps honoring Robredo

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In memory of former Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo, the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) will issue a special stamp on May 27, his 55th birthday.

PHLPost Postage and Philatelic department head Elenita San Diego yesterday said the stamp recognizes Robredo as a recipient of the Quezon Service Cross Award.

San Diego said they used an official photograph provided by Robredo’s widow Leny, and the DILG for the stamp with the picture of the late President Manuel Quezon and the logo of the Quezon Service Cross in the background.

PHLPost printed 400,000 pieces of the Robredo stamp and would sell it at P10 each. It would be available to the public starting May 27 until May 26 next year or until stocks last.

The stamp, measuring 30 mm x 40 mm, was printed by Amstar Co.

Robredo was born on May 27, 1958 and served as mayor of Naga City, Camarines Sur for six terms beginning 1988. In year 2000, he was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service.

He died in a plane crash in Masbate on Aug. 18, 2012. His body was recovered three days later.
