NBI chief still in coma

- Edu Punay -
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Reynaldo Wycoco is still in a deep coma at the Manila Doctors Hospital, where he has been confined for the last five days.

No new medical bulletins on Wycoco’s condition were issued yesterday by his attending physicians or by hospital officials. Wycoco’s younger brother said the NBI chief is in the "same condition" he was in for the past five days.

Superintendent Edgar Wycoco of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Western District Office said his brother’s digestive system has shown continuous improvement.

"We are still praying that he will be better in the next hours," he told reporters. The NBI director’s son, Mico, remains by his father’s side as friends continue to flock to the hospital to provide moral and spiritual support for the Wycoco family.

Interior Secretary Angelo Reyes and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief Director General Anselmo Avenido both paid their ailing friend a visit and expressed hope that Wycoco will recover soon.

Wycoco slipped into a deep coma after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. He is still in the intensive care unit of the MDH and is hooked up to a life support system.

In the last medical bulletin issued Friday night, Wycoco’s cardiologist, Dr. Dante Morales, said they will perform a CT scan once Wycoco’s vital signs have stabilized.
