Actor and model Marco Gumabao is “super happy” about the engagement announcement of his former girlfriend, Cristine Reyes, to businessman and former National Youth Commission chair Gio Tingson.

“I’m super happy. You know what? I’ve known Cristine ever since ‘Tubig at Langis’ days. Kumbaga may pinagsamahan kami even before the relationship. We started off as friends. We ended the relationship as friends. So, of course, I want to congratulate her for her engagement. I’m sure that Gio will take care of her,” Marco told The STAR in an exclusive interview during the recently concluded Kaogma Festival 2026 at CamSur Uptown in Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur.

“Actually, Gio is a friend of my sister from high school. I’ve met Gio before. He’s a great guy. So, I’m sure that Cristine is in good hands. And I’m happy for them,” he added.

Marco shared that he and Cristine parted ways on good terms.

“Cristine deserves to be loved. And sadly, our relationship didn’t work. And ganun talaga, we move on, but we don’t hold grudges. We pray for the other person as much as possible. And no bitterness. Yun lang naman ang buhay,” he mused.

Marco is “happily single” at the moment and is currently focused on his personal growth, health and “everything else.”

Reflecting on singlehood, Marco said that he has more time for himself.

“I think you control your time. At the same time, I think it’s time for me to take a backseat from dating and focus on myself, focus on my career and just enjoy being single,” he ruminated.

Marco (pictured in CamSur) says he is ‘super happy’ for his former girlfriend, Cristine Reyes, who recently got engaged to Gio Tingson.

Marco served as one of the judges during the Miss Kaogma Philippines 2026 coronation night, alongside Miss Eco International 2025 Alexie Caimoso Brooks, Miss Universe 2021 Top 5 Beatrice Luigi Gomez, Face of Beauty International 2025 Nikki Buenafe and Miss World Asia 2025 Krishnah Gravidez.

“Actually, it was a hard job because all the candidates are very smart, very beautiful and articulate in speaking. So, it was actually a hard time judging the queens. But I think we made the right choice on who will be the winner of Miss Kaogma. So, yeah, I hope it will be a good reign as Miss Kaogma Philippines 2026,” Marco expressed.

Reynaleen Praferosa emerged as the winner and was crowned Miss Kaogma Philippines 2026.

A proud Bicolano, with both of his parents tracing their roots to the province, Marco beamed that it is always a joy to return home and learn more about Bicolano culture.

He previously ran for representative of the fourth district of Camarines Sur in the 2025 midterm elections but was unsuccessful in his bid.

“Because me, growing up in Manila, of course, I wasn’t exposed to the culture of being a Bicolano. But now that I’m older, now that I have more time, I choose my time to learn the culture more, know the people more and just entrench myself more in the people,” he shared.

One Bicolano trait that Marco is particularly proud of is being oragon. “Oragon baga means you have the courage, you have the confidence. ‘pag sinabi mong oragon, parang you’re really tough. You can do anything,” he explained.

“So, for me, we, Bicolanos, we are tough people, but at the same time, we also show love to other people. So, it’s just nice to be a Bicolano because the people here are kind. Everyone’s hospitable. And yeah, I just want to know more about the culture and deeply know more about the province itself.”

Marco has just wrapped up filming the Vivamax film “Pasakalye.”
