D8TV revives classic joy of 90s-style sitcoms via 2 original comedy series

MANILA, Philippines — In an era where digital content dominates entertainment, D8TV revives the classic joy of 90s-style sitcoms through two original comedy series that the new generation will surely love — “Roomies” and its sequel, “Boarding Haus.”
Presented by NKO Films Original Series, both sitcoms pay tribute to the golden era of barkada-driven television — where simple conversations, playful banter and genuine friendship were enough to bring laughter, kilig and relatability to audiences.
The two series are created by Android-18 bandmates Direk Niokz Arcega and Gela Quevedo, who came together to revive the situational comedy format after the pandemic — a time when people learned to value connection, companionship and joy in simple bonding moments.
Through “Roomies” and “Boarding Haus,” D8TV brings back the feeling of watching sitcoms with friends and family — a throwback to the 90s TV vibe, reimagined with a modern approach for today’s digital audience.
"Roomies" is a fun-filled sitcom about a group of friends living together under one roof. In their daily lives, they face the challenges of adulthood, friendship, love and personal growth — all with humor at the center.
It stars showbiz newcomers Benedict Sta. Ana, Trixie Malang, Jayvee Villaraza, Charles Temones, Mara Quevado, Khiester Bernardino, Nick Laminoza, Rismon Delsocorro, Jack Daniel Burgos and Sheldon Cruz.
“Roomies” is a story of real friendship — where no barkada is perfect, but everyone is willing to support each other through thick and thin.
Created by Direk Niokz Arcega and Ms. Gela Quevedo, the series is written by Gela Quevedo and directed by Niokz Arcega.
Following the success of “Roomies,” the barkada universe expands even further in its sequel, “Boarding Haus.”
From the creators of “Roomies,” this new series features a bigger setting, wilder characters and even more hilarious situations inside a boarding house where more tenants mean more personalities — and more chaos.
Adding new energy to the series are the new tenants Trisha Malvar and Jasmine Mendoza.
“Boarding Haus” is created by Direk Niokz Arcega, Gela Quevedo and Anjo Inacay of Silent Sanctuary.
The soundtrack is written by Chito Miranda of Parokya ni Edgar and performed by the band Soapdish, delivering a nostalgic and feel-good vibe that perfectly matches the show’s 90s sitcom inspiration.
The two sitcoms are shown in D8TV every Sunday at 7 pm.
