Bobby Andrews on FranSeth: ‘You have to be friends first before love’

Veteran actor Bobby Andrews shared his thoughts on the onscreen and offscreen chemistry of young stars Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin, saying that friendship is an important foundation for any successful love team.
During a press conference for their movie “She Who Must Not Be Named,” opening in cinemas today, Bobby was asked by this writer to compare their dynamic to the romantic pairings of the ’90s, when he himself was part of one of the most popular tandems (together with Angelu de Leon of “TGIS”) from that era.
According to him, what audiences see onscreen reflects how Francine and Seth, also dubbed FranSeth by fans, are in real life.
Although Bobby admitted that he does not often see them together outside of work, he noted that their dynamic is evident even during casual moments with the cast.
“In terms of dynamics, seeing them together outside the shoot, during moments na kasama yung cast…What you see on screen is how they are on and in real life, you know, they’re really sweet,” he said.
He clarified though that “I don’t know what the score is, I don’t know what’s going on” with the two.
However, Bobby believes friendship should come first before real-life romance grows between onscreen partners.
“And they have a good working relationship and they’re friends,” he pointed out, “because it’s very important to have that as a love team. You have to be friends first before love.”
Seth agreed, saying that friendship and more importantly, respect are necessary in working together.
“I’ll be honest, we’re friends, sometimes enemies,” he quipped in a follow-up question from The STAR. “But the root of this is… we respect each other, the connection is there. Alam po namin yung ginagawa namin and yeah, sa tingin ko yun na naman yung tamang gawin.
“Lalo na sa paggawa ng pelikula. Hindi lang kailangan nyo ng trust ng isa’t isa, pinagtrabahuhan po namin kaya nasaan kami ngayon.”
He also shared how their relationship has changed over time since they started working together.
“The wall between us before, wala na ngayon, pinababa ko siya. Oo, nag-hagdan ako para maabot po,” he said.
“When it came to breaking the walls, both of us had to adjust,” Francine added. “Kasi two people won’t meet eye-to-eye, if one party doesn’t want to.”
Nevertheless, hearing Bobby’s comments means a lot to FranSeth.

“But I’m happy that Sir Bobby noticed that. The energy that you show on set, it’s important… The way they see you, your aura the moment you enter the set, your presence — it’s important. Hindi yung bigat yung nararamdaman ng ibang tao sayo. Because that will create a domino effect,” Seth said.
Added Francine, “Kapag po nakaka-receive po kami ng mga ganung comments lalo po galing kay Tito Bobby, sobrang nakakataba po ng puso.”
“Kapag may ginagawa po kaming trabaho, sobrang focus po namin doon. Sometimes, I think people see us as too serious when it comes to work and so to hear that, nakakatuwa lang po marinig.”
Francine said they always try to give their best, not just for themselves but also for the people they work with.
“Hindi lang naman po namin ito ginagawa para sa sarili namin eh, ginagawa din po namin ito para sa mga katrabaho namin. For sure po nahihirapan kami, minsan mas may nahihirapan pa po kasi like in the production, mas nauuna sila, sila rin huling uuwi,” she added.
“Of course, we want to give back yung suporta rin po na natatanggap namin sa lahat ng nakaka-appreciate ng pag-arte namin.”
“She Who Must Not Be Named,” which is their first romantic-comedy together, starts screening in cinemas today. Directed by Christopher Novabos, the film follows the story of a charming, dyslexic playboy (Seth) who falls for a mysterious girl (Francine) who refuses to reveal her name.
Aside from Bobby, who plays Seth’s father in the film, “She Who Must Not Be Named” features Ruby Ruiz, Raven Rigor, Kych Minemoto, Elijah Alejo, Kaleb Ong, Abdul Raman, Lady Martin and Bernadette Allyson. It is produced by OH Aye Productions Inc. and Solar Studios Inc.
