Ai-Ai Delas Alas gives a glimpse into blissful single life
Actress Ai-Ai delas Alas has been given the opportunity to play a nun in the TV5 Entertainment production titled ‘My Bespren Emman.’ Her character will impart wisdom and insights about living to Mateo, played by JM de Guzman. For Ai-Ai, one should choose happiness and kindness to have a meaningful life.

Seasoned actress Ai-Ai delas Alas is part of the inspirational drama titled “My Bespren Emman,” airing weeknights on TV5 and featuring JM de Guzman in the leading role.

In a recent mediacon, Ai-Ai, also known for her iconic mother role Ina Montecillo in the movie “Ang Tanging Ina,” said that Piolo Pascual broached to her the idea of playing a nun or a “madre” in the vernacular. She initially thought they would be working together as actors, but Piolo is wearing the hat of a producer this time.

“Ninanamnam ko naman and tina-try ko and nag-pa-pray ako na sana magampanan ko yung as a madre (I’m imbibing and enjoying it. I’m trying my best and praying to play the role). Hindi naman ako as a mother ngayon, as a madre naman (I’m not taking on a mother role for this project, but as a nun),” shared she. “Sabi nila maganda naman yung kinalabasan. So, praise God. Thank you na nagampanan ko siya.”

Ai-Ai further described her character in a chat with The STAR, saying, “(She’s) mysterious here, a nun, but she has dark sides (or challenging experiences) that have happened in her life. That’s why (the character) has a dark aura, but she also possesses a kind aura.”

When asked if her character, Sister Rebecca/Becca, shares wisdom and insights about life with Mateo, played by JM de Guzman, Ai-Ai answered in the affirmative.

“Para tulungan yung character ni JM at nung ibang ma-e-encounter (niya) (she’s there to help JM’s character, Mateo, and others he will encounter in the plotline),” said she, adding that her character represents those who have sinned and been given second chances.

“You need to trust God, and we can’t live without God,” Ai-Ai said about some takeaways one can get from tuning in to “My Bespren Emman.” “Yun talaga, kahit sa totoong buhay (that’s true even in real life)… ginagamit ko yan sa buong buhay ko (I’m also using it as a guide in my life) and in every teleserye (that I do) about this (faith). Kaya ako minsan naiiyak (that’s why I get teary-eyed or cry sometimes). Naiisip ko how God is so good to me.”

She has been given the gift of life and been blessed with loving children and a thriving career.

Back in 2016, Ai-Ai was the recipient of a Papal award, recognizing her charity works as a laity or lay person for the church and some parishes. They ranged from helping the sick and the elderly and sponsoring poor seminarians for the latter’s priestly formation, according to available online information.

As for living a good and meaningful life, she said, “Well, sa totoo lang (actually), you need to be happy. (You know) choosing between (being) right and kind, you need to be kind… it’s really nice to be kind always.”

Part of it, too, is also forgiveness, which is letting go of that emotion of resentment towards those who have hurt or wronged you.

“Kailangan, eh (it’s needed),” said she. “Sabi ko nga nun sa interview (like what I said in a previous interview), ‘You need to forgive, not because of the person, but (you have to do it) for you to have rest. Nakakapagod din yun na parati kang may bwisit na bwisit ka sa buhay, eh (it’s tiring to keep such a negative feeling in you).”

“(‘pag) napatawad mo na sila, tatanggapin mo lang,” shared Ai-Ai about forgiveness and acceptance. “Ganun talaga ang buhay. May masakit, may hindi masakit (that’s life. It has hurtful and harmless sides, good and bad). We’re moving on,” added she. “Yung iba hindi maka-move on (others can’t move forward), pero ganun talaga (but that’s how life is). A-accepin mo lang yun (you need to accept how things are).”

Follow the transformative journey of Mateo, along with Sister Rebecca in the TV5 inspirational drama, which airs weeknights at 8:45.
