In the words of NET25 president Caesar Vallejos, “It was a first in the history of the Philippine concert scene — two colossal venues brought to life in one night: the Philippine Arena and its equally grandiose Philippine Sports Stadium, the favorite venue of international K-pop artists.”

This was “Summer Blast 2026,” held in Bocaue, Bulacan on April 19. Both venues were filled to the rafters; yet, despite the jampacked interior, thousands remained outside. It resulted in the viral “Team Labas” memes generated by those gathered around the strategic giant LED screens across Ciudad de Victoria, while “Team Loob” celebrated inside. An estimated crowd of over 200,000 braved the tropical heat, jumping, screaming and dancing in a collective defiance of exhaustion to the show-stopping performances.

The technical feat was staggering: performances alternated live between the two venues. When the arena was live, the stadium watched the broadcast, and vice-versa, ensuring both crowds experienced the same high-octane energy simultaneously.

The festivities kicked off at the arena with Jumanji, whose driving rhythms effectively hyped the massive crowd. The energy then shifted to the stadium for the grand opening by international star Billy Crawford. Billy delivered a masterclass in stage presence, performing a high-energy medley of Bounce That, Filipina Girl, Love is in the Air and Bright Lights. His seamless choreography and vocal prowess set a sophisticated tone for the night.

As the show transitioned, Sugarcane took the stadium stage, enchanting fans with the melodic storytelling of Paru-Paro, Tanging Ikaw, Leonora and Kung Maging Akin Ka.

The momentum surged back to the arena with Over October. Their indie-rock sensibilities turned the venue electric as the crowd roared along to the infectious choruses of Dahan, Bitin, Ating Dalawa and Ikot.

Hosts Billy, Pia Guanio, Tonipet Gaba and Via Alvarez then introduced Angela Ken. Sporting her signature blue hair, the 23-year-old sensation delivered a poignant set, including Kulimlim, Sundo and Baka Bukas. Her performance of Ako Naman Muna became a highlight of the evening as she paused to share the empowering and relatable message: “Hindi madamot ang pagpili sa sarili” (Choosing yourself is not selfish) — a moment of soft but powerful resonance that moved many.

Back at the arena, Nobita leaned into the romance, leading a massive sing-along to crowd favorites Unang Sayaw, Dito Ka Lang, Tadhana at Dalangin and the ubiquitous Ikaw Lang.

The mood shifted to sultry R&B as Michael Pangilinan and his band, Yudawans, took command. Opening with a dramatic Overture, Michael sent the crowd into a frenzy with a nostalgic and soulful setlist, including Weak, Alipin, All or Nothing, All My Life and So Sick, before closing with the heart-wrenching Bakit Ba Ikaw?.

At the arena, Zack Tabudlo slowed time down with his signature falsetto and somber, evocative hits. The sea of flashlights came out for Nangangamba, Habangbuhay, Pano and Binibini.

Despite being a couple of hours in, this was only the midpoint! The energy only amplified when Silent Sanctuary took the stage. Proving their name ironic, the “silent” band turned the crowd into a massive choir for Bumalik ka na sa akin, 14, Kundiman and Ikaw Lamang.

Dilaw followed at the arena, triggering pandemonium with the psychedelic rock vibes of All In, Janice and their chart-topping anthem Uhaw, closing their set with the raw energy of Rarara.

The stadium roared as rap icon Gloc-9 made his appearance. His rapid-fire delivery and social commentary hit home with Hoy, Simpleng Tao, Upuan, Bagsakan and Sumayaw Ka. In a touching finale, he paid tribute to the late Master Rapper Francis Magalona with a rousing rendition of Kaleidoscope World, uniting generations of hip-hop fans.

Shifting gears to the 2020s era, P-Pop boy group BGYO took the stage. Their synchronized, sharp choreography and polished vocals on Fresh, All these Ladies, Andito Lang and Gigil elicited waves of “oohs” and “aahhs” from the dedicated “ACEs” in the crowd.

As the night reached its crescendo, rock legends Mayonnaise hit the stadium. The ground literally shook when they performed Jopay, followed by the gritty Bakit Part 2, a soulful cover of Ipagpatawad Mo and the fan-favorite Tayo Nalang Dalawa.

Finally, IV of Spades brought the house down in a spectacular finale. The mere mention of their name caused a deafening roar. Drenched in retro-futuristic style, they unleashed a barrage of hits: Nanaman, Paru-Paro, Dulo, Mundo, Kabisado, Come and Aura. It was pure pandemonium — a fitting end to a landmark, gargantuan live event.

“Summer Blast 2026” was more than a concert; it was a historic cultural moment. By seamlessly blending Original Pilipino Music (OPM), rock, R&B, P-pop and rap across two massive venues, the event redefined what is possible for the Philippine live music industry. To call it a success would be an understatement — it was a triumph.
