DOT extends kudos to BINI, Katseye’s Sophia at Coachella

The Department of Tourism (DOT) expressed its pride on Sunday for P-pop girl group BINI and Filipina Katseye member Sophia Laforteza for showcasing Filipino talent at Coachella in California.
In a Facebook post, the tourism department congratulated BINI for achieving a historic milestone as the first Filipino act to perform in the world’s largest and most famous annual music and arts festival.
“Your performances showcased not just world-class talent, but the vibrant spirit, creativity and identity of the Filipino people — bringing joy to global audiences in a way that is uniquely ours,” said DOT.

BINI members Aiah Arceta, Colet Vergara, Maloi Ricalde, Gwen Apuli, Stacey Sevilleja, Mikha Lim, Jhoanna Robles and Sheena Catacutan performed 10 songs during their 45-minute set at Coachella that drew immense international attention.
The crowd danced to BINI’s high-energy choreography and pop music as they sang their Filipino and English hits, such as Cherry on Top, Pantropiko and Salamin, Salamin.
Fans were also observed arriving early on the grounds, proudly waving Philippine flags in support of Filipino talent.
DOT also celebrated Sophia Laforteza, leader of the international girl group Katseye, for performing at Coachella, calling it a reflection of the growing global influence of Filipino music and talent.
Sophia and the rest of her Katseye co-members delivered explosive performances of their hit songs Gabriela, Gnarly and MIA. They also held the live premiere of their new song Pinky Up at the music festival.
“We celebrate this milestone and look forward to your continued success as you inspire future generations and elevate the Philippines on the world stage,” the agency added.
The 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival marked the debut of BINI and Katseye as they gain more prominence in the global music scene.
