Sofia Pablo and Allen Ansay recount eerie experiences on movie set

GHOSTS ARE AMONG US, as folk tales and first-hand accounts, told in books, inform one.
These supernatural beings manifest themselves through visual, auditory, smell or touch. And in some instances, they make their presence felt in a combination of these.
Based on experience, they may appear anytime of the day, but their force gets stronger come dusk time or the bewitching hours.
Kapuso stars and loveteam Sofia Pablo and Allen Ansay can, in a way, attest to the presence of such entities and the eerie atmosphere the latter create in some scenes they took for the movie titled “Huwag Kang Titingin.”
The director is Frasco Mortiz while the other stars are Marco Masa, Kira Balinger, Anthony Constantino, Charlie Fleming, Josh Ford, Sean Lucas, Michael Sager and Shuvee Etrata.
The Gen Z horror story is about a group of students, including Selene, played by Sofia, who have a task to document local traditions and superstitions. They go to a rural place and participate in a procession for the patron saint of wandering souls, as suggested by Manang Baby. They’ve also been warned not to look at these “beings” because doing so has its own consequences.
Badong, portrayed by Allen, will offer a helping hand to save Selene and the rest from the curse.
“Meron akong scene na kinakaladkad, spoiler yun na kinakaladkad ako (I had a scene where my character was being dragged. Is it a spoiler?),” shared Sofia in a recent presscon, demonstrating the position of the camera and recalling that the set was clear from production people to even passers-by.
“Tapos nung nag-pa-pan yung camera, nag-cut kasi may dalawang nakatayo. May dalawang taong nakatayo duon (when the camera panned or moved and the filming was stopped because there were two people caught standing in the camera),” added she. “As in kita talaga sa video (they were seen in the video).”
She even asked her production assistant, who was also in the same area the entire time, about it and the latter replied that nobody was there.
“Nakita po talaga yung dalawang tao na nakatayo. Isang nakapaa, tapos isang parang black figure (Two people were seen standing. One was barefoot, while the other was a black figure),” said she.
They even jokingly asked everyone to admit that there were really individuals standing there to dispel the appearance of “unexpected visitors.”
“Pero wala po talagang tao duon (but there was no one there during the shoot),” said Sofia, whose initial reaction was fear, but since many people were around, she never let it take over her and completed her work.
That eerie and supernatural experience happened between 2 and 4 a.m., as she shared.
According to Allen, their tapings would usually begin at nighttime and wrap up in the morning.
“Meron kaming eksena dito ni Aki na nasa sementeryo kami (Sofia and I had a scene to be taken in a cemetery),” said he. “Hindi naman ako naka-experience, pero alam mo yung vibe (I didn’t have a similar experience, but I could feel the eerie vibe) na hating-gabi tumatakbo kami, ang dilim, dilim kaming dalawa lang (we were running at midnight, alone in a cemetery). Tapos yung prod malayo kasi wide shot (we were far from the production people because the scene required a wide shot). Tapos nanduon kayo sa sementeryo (and again, we were in that kind of place.)”
Known as Team Jolly to fans, Sofia and Allen are also seen doing individual assignments. Allen shows his knack for hosting in “TiktoClock.” Sofia was a housemate in “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0.”
She said that they did “Huwag Kang Titingin” before she entered Bahay ni Kuya. That’s why they made the most of their time while working together in the movie. Produced by GMA Pictures and Mentorque Productions, it will be shown in cinemas on April 15.
Even though they may pursue different interests, Allen and Sofia know their friendship and onscreen partnership are strong.
“Actually, before pa talaga, masasabi ko na sobrang solid na talaga namin together kasi hindi naman biro na hanggang pandemic magkakilala na kami (even before I can say that we’re really solid because we’ve known each other during the pandemic times), na ang dami naming ginawa mga vlogs, mga work namin together (we’ve worked on many things, like vlogs and TV shows),” said Allen.
“Alam namin na pinaghirapan namin kung nasaan man kami ngayon (we know the hard work we put to reach where we are),” added Sofia. “We started from TikTok to vlogging hanggang sa napansin (until people noticed us). We had guestings and then a TV series. Now, we have a movie. So, we’ve really come a long way.”
“Siyempre, habang tumatagal, mas nagiging solid po talaga, wala ng makakasira sa friendship na yun (as time goes by, our friendship becomes more solid. Nothing can break it),” concluded she.
