Not just for show: How ‘My Bespren Emman is changing lives through action

In an era where television promotion is often defined by flashy billboards, viral hashtags and carefully curated celebrity appearances, TV5’s newest inspirational series “My Bespren Emman” is taking a bold and meaningful detour and one that goes far beyond visibility and straight into impact.
Because instead of simply asking audiences to watch, the show is actually showing up.
And this Holy Week, a time deeply rooted in reflection, sacrifice and compassion, “My Bespren Emman” is proving that storytelling does not have to end on screen. It can live, breathe and most importantly, show service at the time when it’s needed the most.
What was meant to be a promotional campaign has evolved into something far more powerful: a movement grounded in empathy, generosity and real-world action that’s deeply rooted in care and meaning.
From the very beginning, the team behind “My Bespren Emman” made one thing clear: The awareness for the show was not going to be a typical rollout.
Instead of limiting their message to trailers and teasers, they chose to bring the heart of the show directly to the people. With the goal of inspiring the crowd to embody what the show stands for.
At the core of the series is a simple but profound idea: anyone can be an “Emman.” Someone who shows up. Someone who helps. Someone who chooses kindness, even in the smallest ways.
And in the days leading up to its premiere, that message came to life in the most tangible way.
As thousands of Filipinos made their way out of the metro for the Holy Week exodus amidst a crisis in energy and soaring prices we all are facing, many braced themselves for the usual, which was long hours on the road, tighter budgets, heavy traffic and physical exhaustion.
But along NLEX, something touching happened.
Motorists were greeted not just with the usual congestion, but with care package.
Through a partnership with NLEX Corporation, the “My Bespren Emman” team distributed water, candies and essential goodies to travelers. It wasn’t just about handing out items. It was about reminding people that even on the road, they are not alone.
The outreach didn’t stop there.
Last Holy Monday and Tuesday, “My Bespren Emman” took to the streets once again and this time, offering something even more essential: mobility.
Nearly 2,000 passengers benefited from the show’s free ride initiative, traveling from Quezon City to Quiapo. By offering free rides, the show did more than provide convenience. It came at a time where everyone needed a crucial relief and a little help to augment their budgets.
For the working student trying to get home, the parent running errands, or the employee navigating the Holy Week rush, this initiative translated to saved time, saved money and less stress.
It’s the kind of help that may seem small on paper, but in real life, carries immense impact.
It does not stop there.
Perhaps, one of the most heartfelt highlights of the campaign took place on Holy Wednesday in Gagalangin, Tondo.
Here, “My Bespren Emman” held a special community screening and bringing the show directly to a place where stories of struggle and resilience are part of everyday life.
Director Derick Cabrido, lead stars Sid Lucero and JM De Guzman, as well as other cast members TJ Valderrama and Niño Mendoza were there as they made it a priority to share time in the middle of their busy taping schedule.
JM proudly shared, “This is what the show release stands for and proud of that I hope people will continue to see and look for Emman.”
Continuing its Holy Week initiatives, the show also launched its “Emman Alay-Lakad Assistance” along Ortigas Extension in Pasig City.
Designed to support devotees participating in traditional Holy Week walks, the initiative provides assistance to those undertaking physically demanding journeys as part of their faith.
Water, guidance and presence as these became the show’s offerings.
But more than the physical support, it was the act of walking alongside people in their journey — literally and figuratively — that stood out.
What makes these efforts even more compelling is how closely they align with the story the show itself is telling.
Leading the series as well is Shaina Magdayao, who takes on the role of Ruth — a woman shaped by hardship but defined by resilience.
Ruth’s life is far from easy. Born into a difficult circumstance as the child of a criminal, she grows up in prison, is orphaned at a young age, and eventually raised in an orphanage.
And yet, despite the weight of her past, she chooses hope.
As Shaina shared, Ruth is not perfect, but she never loses faith in the possibility of a better life. The actress shared, “Alam niyo kasi si Ruth, hindi perfect ang kanyang buhay, napaka bigat ng pinagdaanan. Just the fact that she grew up in a prison and got orphaned at a very young age. She had no choice but to grow up in an orphanage but what’s nice about the character of Ruth is that she never lost hope.”
Opposite her is JM, who plays Mateo. Together, they navigate life’s complexities while raising their child — adding another layer of emotional depth to the narrative.
Their child, a person with disability (PWD), is portrayed by young actress Ryrie Sophia, whose dedication to the role includes studying sign language and undergoing acting coaching.
It’s a commitment that reflects the show’s deeper intention to represent and do so with authenticity and respect.
The ensemble cast further strengthens the show’s message.
With seasoned actors like Ai-Ai delas Alas, Sid, Mich Valdez and Donna Cariaga, the series brings together a wealth of talent.
But perhaps one of the most compelling narratives comes from Kit Thompson.
After facing personal struggles and controversies in the past, Thompson has openly spoken about his journey toward change. Now actively embracing his faith, he sees his role in “My Bespren Emman” as more than just another project.
Kit proudly told us, “I believe anyone can change. I have had a lot of struggles in my past. I was also in the dark path before and it takes a lot to overcome that but it’s not impossible.”
His story mirrors the show’s core message: that no matter how dark the past may be, transformation is always possible.
Indeed, what “My Bespren Emman” is doing is quietly revolutionary.
It is challenging the long-standing formula of television promotion and replacing it with something far more meaningful which is action and service.
Instead of asking how to capture attention, the show is asking how to create impact.
And in doing so, it redefines what success can look like in today’s media landscape. Because while ratings matter, so do real lives.
As “My Bespren Emman” gears up for its premiere on April 27 on TV5, the anticipation surrounding it is different. The show invites viewers to reflect. To participate. To act.
To become an “Emman” in their own communities.
Because at its core, the message is simple: kindness is accessible. It doesn’t require wealth, status, or grand gestures.
Sometimes, it’s as simple as giving someone a ride. Offering water. Showing up.
In the end, “My Bespren Emman” is more than just an addition to primetime television.
It is a reminder that stories are powerful, but with that we also have to take action and transform for the best.
And that in a world often focused on noise and numbers, there is still space for sincerity.
During the Holy Week, when many paused to reflect on faith and sacrifice, “My Bespren Emman” offered a timely and powerful example of what it means to live the message.
Catch it on TV5 Todomax Primetime come April 27.
