It’s giving ‘ngiting tagumpay’: Macoy Dubs takes pride in ‘Dogshow Divas’ success

Market! Activity Center, Taguig City.

“Dogshow Divas” host Macoy Dubs did not expect the overwhelming reception of their comedy and pop culture podcast, which he co-hosts with his pal Baus Rufo.

“It’s really heartwarming because Baus and I didn’t expect the podcast to be successful,” Macoy beamed in an interview during the launch of “Ngiting Tagumpay,” a nationwide oral health advocacy, held at Market! Market! Activity Center, Taguig City. He co-hosted it with Tuesday Vargas.

“We’re truly grateful to everyone who supports ‘Dogshow Divas.’ It makes us happy whenever people share and like our content. We’ll just keep going and keep doing this for as long as people continue to listen. We’ll always be here,” he said.

Prior to launching “Dogshow Divas” in September 2025, Macoy and Baus had already been friends for three years. “Nung nag-improv ako, we also had an improv group together, and then we performed every month in BGC until ‘Dogshow Divas’ happened,” recalled Macoy.

He described his dynamic with Baus on the podcast as complementary, likening their partnership to yin and yang.

“Baus is the type of person who’s always good with follow through,” he elaborated. “I’m more banking on my ideas and creativity. Medyo dreamy, dreamy ang ate ninyo, eh. But Baus is the type who would say, ‘OK, let’s push. Let’s do this.’ So, I guess there’s this yin and yang in our tandem. In terms of our relationship, it’s always personal first and then the second is what we do for ‘Dogshow Divas.’”

He also admitted that they had disagreements in the past. “Yes, but bilang sa kamay yung disagreements namin. But you know disagreements are actually a good thing because they create contrast and it also makes the relationship healthier, and you get to understand each other’s boundaries.”

Since they have been friends for quite some time, they know how to navigate their working relationship and clearly separate personal matters from work.

“Kumbaga, mare, ‘wag kang mag-ano ha, hindi to personal, this is just work,” said he.

On why their podcast often goes viral, Macoy said, “I think kaya siya naging patok because we don’t have a topic. If you listen to our podcast, we’re like friends sa kanto na umiinum ng alak na lasing na tapos yung topic talagang lumilipad lang ng lumilipad.”

Macoy believes that’s exactly what the Filipino audience is looking for — the humor and lightheartedness.

“Especially now, with so much happening in the world, we want to be happy. Masaya pero may sense pa din na hindi tayo lumalayo dun sa reality,” shared he.

The success of “Dogshow Divas” is giving Macoy a “ngiting tagumpay” moment, which he describes as one of the most life-changing experiences in his life. “I’ve been a content creator for almost 10 years. So, hindi biro yung isang dekada na nadaanaan mo ‘to. Ten years is not a joke as a content creator, especially when they say that a content creator’s life span is only about two years. But reaching this far, it means a lot already. So, it’s really a ‘ngiting tagumpay.’”

He attributed his career longevity to maintaining strong, positive relationships with the people he works with.

“If there’s an early call time, you show up early. And it’s also very important to acknowledge and recognize the people you work with in production. Maybe I’ve come this far because I’m kind to my prod staff, or maybe talagang consistent din ako sa pag-u-upload. So, maybe that’s the secret,” said he.

Mainstream acting

Aside from content creation, Macoy is also open to mainstream acting.

“I had projects during and after the pandemic. But the roles I got weren’t really major ones yet. In showbiz, though, there is no small or big role. If given the chance to act, why not? Papasukin din natin siya eventually,” he shared.

Given the opportunity, he would like to collaborate with his idols from the ‘90s, such as Jolina Magdangal and Dimples Romana.

Content creators The Aguinaldos and Macoy join Haleon Philippines Polident representative Lia Magno in showing support for the oral health advocacy program.

Oral health advocacy

The “Ngiting Tagumpay” advocacy aims to empower Filipinos to better understand and address common dental issues such as tooth sensitivity and tooth loss. It was launched by Haleon, the maker of Sensodyne and Polident, in partnership with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) and Philippine Association of Registered Dental Technologists (PARDTI).

Mother-and-son content creators The Aguinaldos were also at the event as part of the campaign.

“Ngiting Tagumpay” will travel to major cities across the country to offer free dental consultations, oral health education and essential procedures. The program will also provide 1,500 free dentures to beneficiaries.

“Many Filipinos tend to delay seeking dental care until symptoms become more difficult to manage,” PDA president Lucilo Niñal Jr. noted. “Conditions like tooth sensitivity or tooth loss are common, but they can often be addressed effectively when people are informed and receive timely care.”

“World Oral Health Day reminds us that prevention and early treatment play a crucial role in maintaining overall health. Through programs like ‘Ngiting Tagumpay,’ we can reach more communities with reliable information while connecting them to proper dental care. Our continued collaboration with Haleon also reflects the value of working with partners who prioritize science-based solutions and responsible health advocacy.”

For Haleon Philippines general manager Maimai Punzalan, the launch of the program “reinforces an unwavering commitment to improving everyday health for Filipinos through trusted brands and partnerships.”

“We believe every Filipino deserves access to quality dental and denture care. A healthy smile makes a real difference in people’s lives, from finding success in their livelihoods to sharing moments with loved ones,” she said.
