'Didn't sign up for this': Lizzo says she 'quits'
MANILA, Philippines — Award-winning artist Lizzo said she is "quitting," clapping back at online critics.
Lizzo posted the statement on her Instagram account with no accompanied caption.
She began by saying she was tired of being dragged by people, both on the internet and those in her circle.
"All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it," Lizzo said. "But I'm starting to feel the world doesn't want me in it."
Lizzo touched on being used for clout, being joked about because of how she looks, her character picked apart and her name being disrespected.
The statement abruptly ends with "I didn't sign up for this s**t — I QUIT" and a peace sign emoji.
Several people commented their support for Lizzo, including Paris Hilton, Killer Mike and Sophia Bush.
The past several months have been rough for Lizzo as she was involved in a harassment lawsuit filed by three of her former dancers.
The lawsuit alleges Lizzo forced the dancers to attend an Amsterdam sex show and engage with performers. It alleges that the singer had several outbursts and threw "veiled" statements toward them.
Lizzo has denied the claims as "false allegations" and "sensationalized stories," and the case is currently on hold as Lizzo filed an appeal.
