The upcoming youth-oriented mystery thriller Caught in the Act has recently released an all-original movie soundtrack called Inner Love.

Caught in the Act: Inner Love features six songs: Nariyan Ka Lang Pala and Tanging Hiling performed by Pinoy Big Brother Connect second placer Andi Abaya; Sabihin Ko Na Ba? performed by Bamboo B; Huwag Muna Ngayon performed by Jhassy Busran; Huli Ka by Bro. Alvin Barcelona with Himaya band; and Ako Muna by Aio Barcelona with Himaya band.

The tracks from this album hinge on young love and friendship, which are among the themes in the movie. Caught in the Act is helmed by director Perry Escan?o while the soundtracks are composed by Bro. Alvin Barcelona and Henry Ong.

The forthcoming flick stars Kapuso star Joaquin Domagoso, son of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and Kapamilya actress Andi Abaya. It explores the story of two senior high school students (Joaquin and Andi) who invent a new mobile app called Caught in the Act, a crime-stopping app, which allows people to report crimes.

During a virtual call, the cast members were asked by The STAR of their respective definition of “inner love.” Each had this to say:

Joaquin went first, “It’s there pero hindi mo pa nilalabas. You’re not ready to face it but alam mo yung it’s creeping up on you already. Nandun ka na eh. You’re just denying it.”

Andi said, “It’s all the things that you feel inside. It’s your emotions, feelings na ikaw lang yung nakakaalam at nakakaramdam. Lahat ng yun nasa saloobin mo lang, that’s why it’s called ‘inner love.’ It can be something na you can put out eventually, but it’s more like having to keep it to yourself. Kasi hindi naman lahat ng nararamdaman natin ay lalabas na agad.”

For singer Jhassy, it is someone’s emotions or feelings for a person that you keep to yourself. “Hindi mo kayang mailabas pa. Yung confidence mo nasa loob pa. You’re giving your 100-percent love without expecting love pabalik. Kasi hindi mo naman sinasabi yung nararamdaman mo. Hindi mo pa kayang ilahad yung mga feelings mo para sa iba.”

Bamboo B’s understanding of inner love is, it’s the love that you haven’t expressed, just like in the film. In other words, “katorpehan.” “Ayun po yung gustong ipakita ng isang tao or kami po na dahil sa katorpehan, hindi naman nagagawang mailabas. Kasi natatakot kami mag-risk or mag-commit over something na hindi naman talaga namin sure kung karapat-dapat ba na ipaglaban or may pag-asa ba na mananalo kami sa laban (of love).”

Josh Lichtenberg, on the other hand, shared, “Inner love is the love that you keep deep inside you and you kind of feel pain…because the pain makes you deny that you feel it for someone.”

Meanwhile, direk Perry explained why he chose to include original songs for this film. “Mas maganda kasi original para ma-explore natin yung bagong talent ng mga musicians natin. Iba pa rin kasi pag bago talaga. Yung soul talaga ng mga pelikula, itong mga soundtrack.”

The original tracks offer a new feeling for the audience to listen to, he added.

Educator and Catholic lay preacher Bro. Alvin felt deeply honored to be part of this project along with son Aio.

He was asked what adjustments he made in composing songs for the millennials.

“It was fun, it went naturally,” he said and reiterated that the theme is about love, “And love knows no age. Pag umiibig ka, there is a common feeling.”

Bro. Alvin studied the film’s script first and he wrote the tracks based on the characters of Andi, Jhassy and Bamboo B in the movie.

“Meron akong one meeting with them, sabi ko, bago ko isulat gusto ko makita mukha nila. Tapos gusto ko silang marinig. Tapos kung may sample songs sila, gusto ko ma-feel yung feel nila,” recalled Bro. Alvin and the rest followed.

Aside from this, what made Bro. Alvin relate to his compositions was he put himself in their shoes as a teenager. “Salamat sa Diyos, dumaan din tayo sa pagiging teenager. Pinaalala din yung sarili ko nung ako ay in love.”

He is also a senior high school teacher so he was able to connect with the younger generation. “More or less, hindi naman ako nagiging detached sa panahon ngayon dahil kausap ko yung mga kabataan halos araw-araw at napakalaking impluwensiya sa akin ang aking anak na si Aio. Siya din ang aking consultant pagdating sa aking pagsulat para sa mga millennials.”

Caught in the Act will also release six new music videos on Star Music’s YouTube channel on Oct. 8.
