Do they still believe in Santa Claus?

Do they still believe in Santa Claus?
Tirso Cruz III

(Second of Two Parts)

He sees you when you’re sleeping

He knows when you’re awake

He knows if you’ve been bad or good

So be good for goodness sake

This is Part 2 of Funfare’s special Christmas forum: When did you stop believing in Santa Claus, if you ever did?

Eleven more celebrities answered the question.

• Tirso Cruz III: If memory serves, when I was about 10. But before that, I did enjoy looking forward to Santa Claus’ coming and filling my socks with goodies. For me, Santa is every child’s hero (and he turns out to be every child’s dad).

Avel Bacudio

• Avel Bacudio: I’m trying to remember the last time we celebrated Christmas as a family in the province (Bicol).  It was such a bittersweet moment, I don’t recall having food on the table for Noche Buena but I do remember praying together as a family.

Also as child, I believed in Santa Claus. I saw him as an epitome of generosity. I would remember hanging socks on our windows and praying that he would deliver gifts for me, only for me to wake up to nothing. I never lost hope and still continued to believe that my time would come. Disappointment aside, I realized the true essence of Santa Claus that it is in giving that you will truly receive. I felt more fulfilled in sharing a part of myself freely. I find happiness in it.

Isabelle Daza

• Isabelle Daza: I never believed in Santa Claus because he never gave us gifts. Only the Three Kings did, hehehe!!!

Joel Lamangan

• Joel Lamangan: Ever since I was young, I knew that Santa Claus was not real. My grandmother instilled in my young mind that Christmas must be celebrated with Jesus Christ as the center of the celebration because it is His birthday. If we want gifts, we should pray straight to Jesus, not to Santa Claus.

JM de Guzman

• JM de Guzman: I was very young when nabuking ko na ‘yung tito at tita ko ang nagsasabit ng gifts sa Christmas Tree for my cousins, hahaha!!!

Pia Guanio

• Pia Guanio: It must have been when I was 8 or 9 when I started asking questions about how Santa Claus knew what I wanted, how he knew where we lived and such things. I think my parents just owned up then and told me the truth. I hope this Christmas, kids everywhere also learn about how Christmas is really about the birth of Jesus and how He came on this day to save us.

Tim Yap

• Tim Yap: I never stopped believing in Santa Claus even if I knew he was my dad. Growing up, I have learned that we will come across many Santas in our lifetime and they will give you many gifts beyond the material, be there for you and make you realize the more important aspects of life. Santa is the person you pray to…Santa is you dreaming while awake…Santa is magic.

Albert Martinez

• Albert Martinez: For me, there’s always Santa Claus every Christmas. He is the spirit of joy, love and peace.

Kisses Delavin

• Kisses Delavin: When I was seven years old, I wished for a bike for Christmas and I got it on Christmas Eve. I haven’t stopped believing in Santa ever since. He doesn’t have white beard and reindeers but he’s real cool, and likes to eat and loves me and my mom very much.

Mike Enriquez

• Mike Enriquez: When I woke up one early Christmas Day and I saw my grandfather placing a gift under our Christmas Tree, I was able to confirm what I had already suspected — that he was Santa Claus. But I never told him. I wanted him to continue enjoying being Santa Claus. I knew it was a major part of his having a truly Merry Christmas.

Fr. Larry Faraon

• Fr. Larry Faraon: Santa Claus is a symbol of the joy of Christmas bringing to the fore children’s simplicity of joy which the birth of Jesus brings. As long as he symbolizes joy in its simplicity, I will never stop believing in him.
