MANILA, Philippines — With good looks as primary requirement in any beauty pageants, Miss Silka Philippines 2018 has become not only a platform to showcase the beauty, intelligence and elegance of a Filipina but also to promote one’s advocacy. This year’s edition, which will be held today, 3 p.m. at the Market! Market! Activity Center in Taguig City, has 26 candidates representing the country’s different provinces with the goal of helping transform lives and empower their communities.

During the media presentation last Tuesday, the candidates strutted on stage and expressed happiness over making it to the finals. They, too, shared their thoughts on issues raised during the casual interview. Miss Laguna felt it is time to move into action to stop bullying, while Miss Bulacan expressed concern on mental health problems as cases of depression among the youth continue to rise in numbers.

Through their stories, some candidates displayed persistence in making their dreams come true. Miss Bacolod shared that joining Miss Silka is not her first beauty competition experience. She failed to succeed in her first, second and third attempts but she didn’t lose heart. Her determination led her to win in the Miss Silka regional search. “This is my fourth time and I feel so blessed to have finally won,” she said.

Now that she is in the national round, Miss Bacolod is all the more motivated to achieve what 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach has accomplished. “Like her, I will never stop in pursuing my dream and at the same time to be of help to my community.”

While each finalist is determined to win, none of them forgets about working on their advocacy. If and when she is lucky to bring home the crown, Miss Cavite will focus on protecting the environment. Miss Quezon feels it is important to fight against body shaming.

“No matter what imperfections you have, as long as you have a good heart to influence other people, then the shape or size should not be an issue. We are all beautiful in our own ways,” stressed Miss Quezon.

Most of the candidates seemed to impress the audience. Their answers echoed the pageant’s aim of providing a platform for women to ignite change and influence people to become ambassadors of progress and transformations.

The winner will have the chance to donate P150,000 to her chosen charity apart from wearing the crown as Miss Silka Philippines 2018, and receiving a cash prize of P150,000, gift certificates, one-year supply of Silka products and skin treatments from Zenaya Aesthetics. She will also become an official endorser of the brand. The first, second and third runners-up will also be announced.

Jay-R will host the event with Tippy Dos Santos. Expected to perform are Iñigo Pascual and Silka Papaya endorser Yassi Pressman.

Miss Silka Philippines 2018 is spearheaded by Cosmetique Asia Corp. in collaboration with different organizations and presented by Cornerstone Events as one of its partners.
