Beyoncé, Pharrell & Sam Smith top Grammy nominations

Beyoncé

Two years ago, it was British singer/songwriter Adele who swept the Grammy nominations and later on, the 2013 Grammy Awards. For 2014, the sensational Grammy debutante was Australian singer/songwriter Lorde. If this trend keeps up, then we could be looking at a sweep of the 2015 Grammys by another British singer/songwriter, the soulful balladeer Sam Smith.

Smith, who is also nominated for Best New Artist along with Iggy Azalea, Brandy Clark, Haim and Bastille, tied with Grammy stalwarts Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams. They all got six nominations each, the most garnered by an artist this year. Fellow Brits Beck also made the cut with four calls for his album Morning Phase and troubadour Ed Sheeran got three, including one for I See Fire, his theme for the movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
