Ramon at his finest

Remy Umerez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine born actor Ramon de Ocampo continues to showcase his exceptional talents with his current portrayal of the Oedipus myth in The Curse of Oedipus.

Ramon’s tour-de-force performance is hailed by critics as his finest to date as his character shifts from a brash young man to a passionate lover to a shattered husband/son to bruised-but-not broken old man in the Greek tragedy, a presentation from Antaeus Company.

Based in L.A., Ramon is the eldest in the brood of four. His father is former Finance Sec. Roberto “Bobby” de Ocampo, who is currently chairman of the board of the Veterans Bank of the Philippines.

Chairman de Ocampo is responsible for bringing Libera, a boys’ choir in the country for concert shows. He is also an album producer. He leaves this month for the US to attend to Libera’s commitments. In October, 2015, the choir returns to the Philippines for performances inManila and Cebu.

Ramon has a string of acting achievements on stage and TV and in films.

On TV, he has appeared in shows like Night Ride Home, Hamlet, Darkened Sky, The Look and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

His film credits include bigger parts in the action movie XXX 2, The Next Level, where he had car chase scenes with rapper-actor Ice Cube; Happy Endings and The Most Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green.

Among the awards he has received are OBIE Award for his performance in The Romance of Magno Rubio; Best Supporting Actor Award in Confronting Demons; YALSA Booklist award for excellence in recording for narration of Tangerine by Edward Bloor; and the LA Drama Critics Circle Award (Ensemble Acting) for Pera Palas with the Antaeus theater company.

Ramon is also the narrator of the best-selling Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney audio book series.

On rare occasions in the past, Ramon had to go home for campaign reasons and during his stay, he was offered to appear in a play at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

He looks forward to another event to happen for his kababayan to appreciate his acting prowess and inspire them to go on in pursuit of their dreams.
