Hansel and Gretel, The Wizard of Oz at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls

MANILA, Philippines - More world-class children’s theater productions are set to captivate families, kids and even kids-at-heart at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.

Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, in partnership with Kids Act Philippines, brings this month Hansel and Gretel, A Children’s Musical and The Wizard of Oz.

“We are bringing more award-winning children’s productions to our malls not only to provide meaningful entertainment for the whole family but to also inspire young kids and open their eyes on just how rich the Filipino theater and performing arts is,” said Megaworld first VP and commercial division head Kevin Tan.

Inspired by the classic tale by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Hansel and Gretel, A Children’s Musical — winner at the 26th Aliw Awards for Best Production for Children and 2013 BroadwayWorld Philippines Awards for Best Book, Lyrics for a Filipino Musical — returns to stage on July 13, 4 p.m. at the Lucky Chinatown Atrium. 

With script, lyrics and direction by Luigi Nacario, and music by Eugene Belbis, the play brings to life the magical adventures of Hansel and Gretel, who find themselves deep into a whimsical forest after being sent out deliberately by their stepmother during a great famine.

The siblings wander deep into the forest, where they encounter bizarre creatures including a witch who lives in a mysterious house made of cake and candy.

Meanwhile, The Wizard of Oz will be staged on July 27, 3 p.m. at the Eastwood Mall Atrium. Inspired by the children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz is a musical for the kids by kids as it features mostly professional theater actors aged seven to 14.
