MANILA, Philippines - Fresh from their successful tour of British cities and Ireland, the World Famous Platters are flying directly to the Philippines to do another tour titled Encore. Pinoys couldn’t get enough of this second generation Platters group that they return to our islands on an annual basis.
All members of the original Platters founded in 1953 by Herb Reed have long joined Elvis in rock ‘n’ roll heaven. Eddie Stovall Sr. and Lawrence “Rooster†Lockard of the World Famous Platters toured extensively with the Platters’ golden-voiced original lead singer Tony Williams while he was still in the concert circuit.
The current line-up, which includes native American JT Tilley, Edward Sr.’s son Edward Jr. and Deneen Davis, are all Platters music veterans. They perform permanently at the Celebrity theater in Branson Missouri (the Las Vegas of the US East coast, minus the gambling) year in and year out and during their breaks, they tour Europe, South America, Asia and the US. The Philippine tour will be special because it falls during grandparent’s weekend. World Famous Platters leader Eddie Stovall Sr., also known as the Emperor of Soul, is a proud grandfather himself.
Included in their set list are Platters million sellers like Only You, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, The Great Pretender, My Prayer, I’m Sorry, Harbor Lights, Twilight Time, The Magic Touch, and many more.
Encore will take the World Famous Platters to Misibis Bay Resort and Casino; Sept. 6; grand ballroom of Solaire Resort and Casino, Sept. 9; dinner show at the Garden Ballroom Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, Sept. 10; Widus Convention Center in Clark, Sept. 11; and SMX Convention Center in Davao; Sept. 12.
