1955 FAMAS bets

REMEMBER WHEN? - The Philippine Star

The March 17, 1956 issue of the Philippine Free Press featured on its cover the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Science (FAMAS) five Best Actress nominees for their films shown in 1955.

The five nominees, from left: Rosita Noble (Torpe), Lolita Rodriguez (Rosanna), Rosa Rosal (Sonny Boy), Leila Morena (Pandora) and Emma Alegre (Higit sa Lahat).

The winner: Rosa Rosal for Sonny Boy.

The FAMAS statuette which stands on a table in front of the five nominees was patterned after the curvaceous figure of Rosal, who later won the coveted Magsaysay Award for her humanitarian services, especially the Red Cross. — RKC
