Milton Hershey guest on Titans this week

MANILA, Philippines - Behind the mouthwatering chocolate Hershey is a man, Milton Hershey (photo), whose obsessive search for the perfect confectionery turned a pastoral Pennsylvania town into the candy-making capital of the world.

In 1894, Milton founded the Hershey Chocolate Company and began experimenting with a process mastered by the Swiss — mixing milk with chocolate. He discovered a winning formula and grew Hershey into a multi-million dollar empire.

The Hershey Chocolate Factory broke ground in 1903 on a pristine stretch of Pennsylvania pasture. Milton dreamed of building a town. Today, the city includes the popular Hershey amusement park and a state-of-the-art medical center opened through a grant from Milton.

Unable to have children of their own, Milton and wife Kitty founded the Milton Hershey Industrial School to house and educate underprivileged boys. The school is funded today by a trust fund left by Milton.
