MANILA, Philippines - Several issues had already been hurled at Angeline Quinto during the past months. One issue that never goes away is about her sexual preference. She is alleged to be a tomboy and is having an affair with the same sex. But just recently, a photo of her holding hands with Erik Santos came out in the entertainment tabs. It was taken during one of their shows in the US. Does it mean they are playing beautiful music together? So how come the tomboy thing sticks to her like glue?
Angeline seemed to give her sweetest smile when talks about her were brought up during the presscon for her sophomore album Fall In Love Again under Star Records.
“That I’m a tomboy is not true,” began Angeline. “Perhaps, people just misinterpret my boyish ways. I grew up in Sampaloc where my friends are mostly boys kaya siguro boyish ako gumalaw.”
In fact, Angeline is trying her best to move with finesse these days. She even sought the help of ABS-CBN to improve her personality. She is not shy to admit that she’s still learning the ABC’s of poise and grace that she never cared to perfect before entering the entertainment scene. Proper diction is another must on her “to learn” list.
“Thanks to Miss Sharon (Cuneta) for having taught us how to pronounce English words correctly, especially the letter e and the double e during Star Power days. We also had speech lessons that time kaya kahit papaano may natutunan ako na nagagamit ko ngayon. Ate Regine (Velasquez) also gave some pointers on how to be a good singer.
“The same with ABS. Before, I didn’t know how to use the set of spoon, fork and knife in a formal table setting. Nahihirapan ako kung ano ba ang unang gagamitin kasi madami yun di ba pero ngayon alam ko na,” Angeline shared with delight.
Angeline is the grand winner of the Kapamilya singing search Star Power hosted by Sharon with Erik and Christian Baustista as co-hosts.
It was in Star Power, Angeline said, where she first met Erik who became her closest friend, aside from Jovit Baldevino, when she joined ASAP last year.
“Our friendship started in ASAP and we’re really close. We are both singers so most often, we talk about the songs that we get to sing particularly the teleserye theme songs.”
Regarding the picture that showed her holding hands with Erik, Angeline said, “Probably, that photo was taken in Hawaii by our fans. Honestly, I haven’t seen it yet. It was my mother who first told me about it when I returned from the US. She asked me, kung mag-syota daw ba kami. I answered, ‘No, there’s nothing going on between us.’ Then my mother told me that it was in the papers. There’s no malice in it. Madalas po kasi lagi kami ang magka-bonding kaya sweet kami talaga.”
Asked what if one day Erik courts her, Angeline replied, “That would be fine with me. Erik is a nice person. I like his simplicity and he’s so easy to get along with.”
If ever that happens, it would be Angeline’s first time to fall in love. So forget about the issue that she engages in a same-sex relationship, Angeline pleaded without a hint of anger in her voice. Perhaps, she has already mastered the art of handling showbiz intrigues even if she had just marked her first year in showbiz two months ago.
“When I was just starting, I was puzzled at how baseless intrigues come out and I always got hurt but I thank Sarah (Geronimo) for always telling me to just ignore them. That’s why I’m beginning to get used to it, nasasanay na lang ako na may mga ganung balita na lumalabas. I just take unsavory issues as challenges.”
What keeps Angeline on her toes is her blossoming career that leads her to enjoy a comfortable life. She has already acquired a condo unit in Mandaluyong City and recently, she bought a 490-sq. meter lot located a stretch away from her mother network.
Her first movie, You Light Up My Life, under Star Cinema with Coco Martin and directed by Jerome Pobocan will be shown soon.
“I thank God for all that is happening to me. I keep telling myself not to stop working hard for my dreams. Just believe and pray to God because He grants our prayers in due time.”
Even her latest album Fall In Love Again includes her life “anthem” Lipad Ng Pangarap.
“It’s my favorite as the song speaks of hope. I do believe that dreams come true no matter how high. You just really have to aim for it.”
