Kim Chiu recently went through graduation rites with other high school students at the Folk Arts Theater. Kim stopped schooling in 2006 when she was declared Pinoy Big Brother Teen Big Winner. Showbiz commitments got in the way and Kim had to forego schooling for a while. But when she found the chance, Kim enrolled in the Department of Education’s alternative school.
On her graduation speech Kim became emotional, “Libre pong mangarap. To all of us who want to make our lives better, it is not impossible to dream. Like me, I dreamed to finish school, kaya congratulations to all of us.”
Kim related that it is no easy to combine work in show business and schooling. “Hindi po biro yong mag-showbiz to education. Parang ang baba ng tingin nila sa akin.” She reasoned, “Pag artista ka easy money, kaya di na sila nag aaral. Sinasabi bobo, walang pinag aralan. Kaya ako, I want to show them that we also study. We want to learn. Para hindi mababa ang tingin nila sa larangan ng edukasyon. We in showbiz also dream to finish school. Education is lasting and you will treasure it forever. I am so proud of myself that I finished high school.”
Kim dedicated her high school diploma to her grandmother. “My grandmother really dreamed for this, that I finish high school before I enter showbiz. I think my grandmother is proud of me. Being part of a Chinese family, having a diploma is a must for every child. She will truly be proud of me.”
Lola Ayling, Kim’s grandma in an interview from Cebu said, “I am proud of her. She is a very intelligent girl. I wish she would continue college. Ang karunungan ay di mapapantayan ng yaman.”
Did she receive congratulatory message from her rumored boyfriend Gerald Anderson who like her also graduated from high school? “I was supposed to be in that ceremony with Kim. But I am here in Tanay. I have my diploma with me.” Gerald is happy for Kim. “She deserves everything. I am so proud of her.”
Is it Sarah or Angeline?
Is Angeline Quinto, Star Power First Female Superstar a threat to Sarah Geronimo? Angeline swept audiences off their feet when she had a duet with Sarah in ASAP Rocks. Sarah and Angeline were pitted against one another way back in 2002, when they both joined Star for a Night where Sarah emerged as the grand winner.
Some sectors are now saying that Princess Sarah is threatened by Angeline’s arrival to the music scene. “Masama yong mag isip na may threat. Baka ma psycho ako. Hindi maganda yong ganung ugali,” she explained. Sarah is in fact happy that Angeline’s dreams are coming true. “I am very happy for her. When she won, I was ecstatic.”
Her duet with Angeline was a tension filled performance, admitted Sarah. “My knees wobbled. Hindi naman kami dapat kabahan but the thing is parang laging may showdown. Parang contest uli. Sana hindi na ganoon ang production number namin para masaya at magawa namin ng maayos.”
Sarah knows the fact that she and Angeline will always be compared to each other. “Laging may darating na mas okey, mas okey sa yo. And that is the challenge, to sustain whatever that you have. Also we just have to pray. God has plans for all of us.”
She also knows that there is time for everything and everyone. “Now it is Angeline’s time. Ako, kailangan ko na lang pangalagaan whatever that I have.”
But this writer thinks that Sarah won that round in ASAP.
