The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Radio program Art 2 Art, recipient of the 2009 Catholic Mass Media Award for Best Educational Program on Radio, continues to bring “usapang sining at kultura para sa lahat” this month.

Hosted by prima ballerina Lisa Macuja and produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Art 2 Art airs nationwide every Sunday, 3:30 to 4 p.m., on dzRH, 666 khz on the AM band. It can be viewed simultaneously on Channel 9 via Cablelink cable television and accessed on the Internet through the website http://dzrh.tripod.com <http://dzrh.tripod.com/> .

After featuring Inspirational Diva Jamie Rivera in its Easter show last April 4 and Joy Virata last April 11, Art 2Art focuses on architect and University of Sto. Tomas professor Manuel Noche today. Noche stresses the importance of built heritage. Noche gives the historical background of the UST Main Building, the Central Seminary, Arch of the Centuries and the University’s Open Spaces.

On April 25, it caps the month with a National Artist tribute, one of show’s unique features where a chosen honoree’s life and contributions to Philippine art and society are discussed. This month, the episode focuses on National Artist Vicente Manansala. Ateneo professor, museologist and independent museum curator Ana Labrador shares stories about the eminent cubist artist’s early career as movie billboard painter and newspaper graphic artist. She cites Manansala’s Stations of the Cross at the UP Chapel in Diliman, Quezon City as “proof of his greatness” and explains why. Manansala was part of the artists’ group called the Thirteen Moderns.
