Making up for lost time

KC and Gabby Concepcion will star in a movie under Star Cinema. Father and daughter are now undergoing an acting workshop in preparation for the movie.

It is an awesome blessing for KC. “Kulang pa ang bonding moments namin sa totoong buhay tapos biglang pinapagawa na sa amin yong mga bagay na hindi pa namin napag-uusapan,” said KC.

“We were able to tell each other our pent up emotions. Sa workshop kami nakahanap ng chance na ikwento ang sama ng loob na matagal ng nakatago,” explained KC.

“We have discovered that our bonding is deep once we let go of our emotions. Yong mga pader na nakaharang, nagigiba lahat yan,” enthused Gabby.

“I think he was also affected by what happened in the past but we tend to forget para masaya na lang,” she added.

“I never thought this movie would be possible. It was not even part of my dream list kasi out of this world na siyang dream. Pero grabe.”

Kapamilya stars at Paano Na preem

ABS-CBN has another blockbuster movie in Paano Na Kaya which had its premiere showing last night at Megamall. Paano Na Kaya megged by Ruel Bayani is topbilled by Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, showbiz’s No. 1 loveteam.

ABS-CBN talents arrived in full force to lend support to the Kimerald tandem including Jericho Rosales, Jake Cuenca, Karylle, Angelica Panganiban, Coco Martin, Maricar Reyes, Jason Abalos, Carmen Soo, as well as ABS-CBN executives Trina Dayrit, Cory Vidanes and Deo Endrinal. Gerald Anderson’s parents accompanied the young actor to the SM Cinema premiere while Kim’s sisters planed in from Cebu to be with the young star.

Kim and Gerald have that much talked-about kissing scene in the movie. And as to how passionate it is, you have to watch the film. Paano Na kaya also stars Melissa Ricks and Robi Domingo who is in his first movie outing. Direk Ruel is impressed with Robi: “He is a natural. I am sure people will expect more of him in the future.”

Catch Paano Na at all SM cinemas nationwide. Also in the cast are Zsa Zsa Padilla, Ricky Davao, Bernard Palanca and Jon Avila.

An American flick for Lance

Lance Raymundo is called the indie prince. And most of his movies have had screenings abroad. The Forgotten War premiered in Seoul, Korea last April, Panahon Na screened in Boston last July, and Ang Nerseri was included in the Roman Film Festival last November.

 Lance flew to Los Angeles last October for the screening of the movie Fidel, his first starring role. Fidel was included in the first Filipino International Film Festival in L.A. (Fiffla) upon the invitation of festival director, Jeff Solema. Fidel is based on true-to-life incidents and could be considered the most challenging role Lance has ever taken.

Rob Schneider, who was present at the festival, described Fidel as a movie with great international appeal and even likened it to the Irish film Once which won Best Foreign Film in the 2007 Independent Spirit Awards. Lance’s performance in Fidel also earned him a role in an American movie that will begin shooting first quarter of 2010 in California. Fidel was recently shown at the Robinsons Galleria Cinema 7.

There’s a Brazilian invasion in the country. Movies, television, commercial and ramp modeling are teeming with beautiful Brazilian faces. Daiana Meneses, Ariani Nogueira, Fernanda Cordeiro, Mariana del Rio, Daniel Matsunaga have at one time landed roles on television or have been featured cover in magazines. From Feb. 10 to 13, the Power Plant Mall, Brasilipinas and Havaianas, in cooperation with School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA) will stage CarnaManila 2010, a four-day affair celebrating the wonders of Brazilian culture. It will be kicked off by free workshops in the Brazilian arts of capoeira, batucada and samba conducted by guest mestres from Brazil as well as EBC Philippines, Philippine batucada pioneers Brigada and Escola de Samba at the Rockwell Tent. A capoeira batizado will also be held Feb. 12 to cap off the workshops.

SoFA will have a Brazilian Fashion Week from Feb. 8 to 14, highlighted by the SoFA Stylist’s Challenge, where SoFA’S fashion styling students will be challenged to create Brazil-inspired outfits.

CarnaManila culminates on Feb. 13 with a Carnaval parade, a fashion show by SoFA, performances by Guarana, Brigada, Escola de Samba and Nyko Maca — PLAYgROUND, and all the Brazilian Funk you need, done by DJs Red-I and Soulflowa. CarnaManila 2010 will also be graced by the Brazilian-inspired culinary stylings of Chef Carla Abaya to be held at the Grove by Rockwell.
