Lydia Montañez: 'Royal Actress'

- Danny Dolor -

In the late ‘40s and early ‘50s, Lydia Montañez may well be called ‘Royal Actress.’

But why?

Lydia starred mostly in films produced by Royal Productions, owned by Fernando Poe Sr.

Her starrers included Lihim ni Bathala, Papa Loves Mambo, Maria Bonita, Irog Paalam and Isinanlang Pag-Ibig, one of her memorable movies.

In Isinanlang Pag-Ibig, Lydia played a woman wrongly accused of killing her sweetheart. Her lawyer was portrayed by Erlinda Cortes, who defended her successfully in court.

In the mid-‘50s, Lydia retired from the movies.     — RKC
