17-gold paglalabanan ngayon sa Palaro

VIGAN CITY, Philippines — Mahigit 17 gintong medalya ang paglalabanan ngayon sa unang araw ng aksyon sa 61st Palarong Pambansa sa Quirino Sports Stadium sa Barangay Bantay dito.

Hinikayat kahapon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ang mahigit 15,000 student-athletes mula sa 17 rehiyon ng bansa na tumulong sa nation building sa pamamagitan ng pagsunod sa fair play at teamwork sa kabuuan ng isang linggong paligsahan.

“May you find inspiration among your fellow players and cultivate regional pride that is necessary to nation-building. As you play with vigor and fairness, continue harnessing the strengths of each other as we proceed on the path towards real and lasting change,” sabi ni Pangulong Duterte sa harap ng mga atleta at mga sports officials sa opening ceremonies.

Nagbigay din ng sigla ang pagdalo ng mga sports great ng bansa na sina dating Philippine Sports Commission chairman Eric Buhain na dating swimming multi-gold medalists sa Asian Games at Sea Games, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, ang nag-iisang 8-division world boxing champion at four-time Bowling World Cup champion Paeng Nepomuceno.

Pinangunahan din ni OIC Ramon Fernandez ang pagdalo sa mga opisyales ng PSC kasama sina commissioners Charles Raymond Maxey, Arnold Agustin at Celia Kiram.

 “This gathering occurs at an opportune time when we are accelerating our momentum towards a harmonious and empowered society. I encourage everyone to develop our youth’s great potential by showcasing their skills and dynamic energy in their chosen sports,” dagdag ni Pangulong Duterte.

Sa pagbubukas ng medal-rich athletics, ang may pinakamaraming medalya na 198 medals, may 13 golds na paglalabanan ngayong araw kabilang na ang 3,000-m run (boys), javelin throw (boys), shot put (girls) at long jump boys habang apat na ginto naman sa blitz event ng chess.

Ang swimming event na may ikalawang pinakamaraming medalya na 180 medals ay mag-uumpisa sa Martes, ang archery ay mag-uumpisa rin ngayon habang ang football ay nagsimula na noon pang Sabado.

Samantala, ikinatuwa ni Mayor Sara Duterte na dumalo rin sa opening ceremonies dito, ang pagkapili sa kanila bilang host sa 2019 Palarong Pambansa sa Davao City mismo. Tinalo ng Davao City ang Oroquieta City, Cagayan de Oro City at Dipolog City sa bidding para sa 2019 hosting.
