CEBU, Philippines — After a four-year absence due to the pandemic, the San Miguel Beer-Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SMB-SAC) All-Cebu Sports Awards will return on May 26 at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

Led by their president John Pages, the members of SAC met just recently at the Unity Coffee and Vinyl to discuss the revival of the annual event honoring Cebu’s outstanding athletes that was last held in February 2020.

“I think it’s timely that we revive the SAC Awards since for the past two years, local, national, and international sports events have returned and a lot of Cebuanos have excelled,” said Pages, who was joined in the meeting by fellow sportswriters Jingo Quijano, Mike Limpag, Jun Migallen, Calvin Cordova, Dale Rosal, Caecent Magsumbol, Edri Aznar, Rick Gabuya, and Manny Villaruel.

The group has decided to include the top achievers of 2022 and 2023.

Among the nominees for the Major Awards are seven-time PBA MVP and Asian Games basketball gold medalist June Mar Fajardo, Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and World 10-ball billiards queen Rubilen Amit, world boxing champion Melvin “El Gringo” Jerusalem, 2023 Philippine Amateur Golf crown-holder Junia Gabasa, karting prodigy William John Riley Go, and Olympic skateboarder Margielyn Didal.

SAC will also hand out special citations to sporting personalities who excelled both in the national and international stage.

“We are inviting everyone to join us in the SMB-SAC Awards. This is your chance to meet the best athletes of Cebu,” added Pages, who is also the current chairman of Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC). – EBV from Pooled Report.
