SHS-AdC, UV 2-0 in SBP Passerelle Hoops

CEBU, Philippines — Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and the University of the Visayas scored their second straight wins in their respective divisions at the 33rd SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament backed by Milo. SHS-Ateneo scored a close 39-35 overtime win over University of San Carlos while UV cruised past Sisters of Mary School Boystown, 49-33, in the Passerelle division.

In an SBP division game, the SBP Magis Eagles (2-0) played from behind throughout the game, leaning on an end-game rally to record the win. SHS-Ateneo capped their rally to take the lead at 30-29 courtesy of Froilan Maglasang but Gestur Canonigo countered with split charities with 20 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Momentum was on the side of the Magis Eagles as Maglasang poured in four points in overtime for the win. He had ten points to lead the team while Dylan Jared Lim and Erik Jabalon had eight points apiece. In the other SBP division game, UV (1-1) cruised past Don Bosco (0-1), 34-16 with Kent Clark Castro leading the offense with 14 points. AJ Prudenciado and Joshmar Canoy had seven points each for the Greywolves.

In Passerelle division games, UV notched its second straight win leading from start to finish and slowing down in the end-game. After a slow start, UV streaked to leads of 32-13 and 48-19 after the second and third periods before sending in their reserves to end the game.

Ivan Cabodbod led Boystown with 10. In other Passerelle division games, Southwestern University-PHINMA stunned defending champion USC, 53-43, with Jesu Siez and Kurt Jalalon soring 15 and 12 points, respectively. Don Bosco recovered form its first loss by thumping Abellana National School, 31-13. (FREEMAN)
