3rd Royal Run set this Sunday

Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Over 1,000 runners are expected to participate in the third edition of Hotel Elizabeth’s ‘Royal Run’ happening this Sunday at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

The ‘Royal Run’, which is considered as one of the most successful running events in Cebu that is organized by a hotel chain, features 21K, 10K and 5K categories. The organizers have also decided to put a separate division for foreign runners.

Hotel manager Katherine Angala said the race will be bigger this year as they have put up a lot of prizes and surprises for the participants.

“We are not making money out of this. Instead, we want to give more to them (Cebuano running community),” said Angala in a press conference yesterday. “Also aside from giving fun and promoting health and wellness, this event will once again be a run for a cause.”

Like the first two editions, proceeds of the run will go to the Jesus and Elizabeth Fernando Foundation that gives financial assistance to underprivileged students and retired musicians.

Close to P150,000 worth of cash prizes and gift certificates await the top placers in each category. A specially-designed ‘dog tag’ will also be given to all the finishers.

There will be a raffle draw after the race, with live band performances by two popular Manila-based Cebuano bands in Urbandub and Franco.

Registration fee is pegged at P450 for 21K, P350 for 10K and P300 for the 5K inclusive of a singlet, race bib and post-race refreshments. Entry forms are available at Hotel Elizabeth, JB Music and Sports, and at Active Zone in Ayala.  (FREEMAN)
