Tour ni Frank fires off tomorrow

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - What started as an ordinary weekend race is now Cebu’s longest running annual cycling event – the RECYCLE Cycling Series now known as Tour ni Frank, which kicks off its 10th edition at the Mandaue Reclamation Area tomorrow.

When this started, participants each put in P20 as registration fee with the winner of the race set to take home the total amount collected.

The event grew bigger as the years passed through the tireless efforts of balikbayan Frank Gatdula and the RECYCLE team.

The TnF may not offer big cash prizes, the fun and the honor one gets for surviving the race are what bring them and those from other parts of the country to the event every year.

This year’s event will only be for class C and B riders, but just like in some editions, class A riders are anticipated to show up and have a race of their own.

There will be two events, a criterium and a road race.

The criterium will take place at the Mandaue Reclamation Area with class C to go first as they will pedal for 40 minutes plus three laps.

The class B event will be 50 minutes plus three laps.

On Sunday, racers will do the road race from Toledo to Busay through the dreaded Transcentral Highway.

Raldy Vios Construction, one of the sponsors has offered to transport riders to Toledo City.

Assembly area will be at Cebu City National Science High School in Labangon. The truck will leave at exactly 7 a.m.

Cash prizes, trophies and a lot of cycling items await the participants.

Other sponsors of the event are Atty. Jong Sepulveda, Vellum Cycles, OZ Racing, Pocari Sweat, Nagashima, Kia Motors, Habagat, Zyke Shirts, BBC Print, ReCycle, and LUZVIMIN (USA) Racing. (FREEMAN)
