Waste water facility project for Cebu City Jail approved

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama has given the go signal for a project that is expected to solve the long-time problem of stench around the Cebu City Jail in Barangay Kalunasan, as well as the water shortage concern in the facility.

Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) chief Reymarr Hijara in an interview with The Freeman disclosed that Mayor Rama has approved the installation of a waste water treatment plant in the city jail.

The treatment plant, according to Hijara, is a long term solution for the awful smell that has been a long time problem not just of those in the City Jail, but also of residents in Brgy. Kalunasan, especially those living around the area.

When Carlitos Ceniza won as Kalunasan barangay captain and then Liga ng mga Barangay vice president in the city last year, Ceniza reportedly disclosed that this problem concerning the smell of waste water discharge from the city and provincial jails will be one of his priorities.

Hijara said they already made an inspection of the area and found out that the foul smell is around the city jail s main dorm.

Hijara said they suggested to the City Jail s engineering team to divert the flow of water as an immediate solution.

But as a long term solution, Hijara said the waste water treatment plant will be a huge help.

Gi approve na gyud ni Mayor finally. Naa tay project diha nga waste water treatment plant. Ang kadtong mga tubig like sa cr, dili man na tae tanan, naa man na siyay part na tubig. Ang katong tubig muagi sa waste water treatment plant, iyang hinluan para pwede nilag gamiton panghugas, pang bisbis ngadto,  Hijara said.

The said waste water treatment plant is also expected to solve the water problem in the City Jail.

At least panglaba, pangbisbis bisbis, panghinlo, naa silay magamit, which is actually mas dako siyag volume of water nga gi-demand. Duha iyang igo para ma process ang water para di na manimahamo, ma process na sad ang water for other uses,  Hijara said.

CCENRO is hoping to accomplish the installation of the said treatment plant in six months time and make it as a model for other facilities.

(CEBU NEWS)
