Mayor Rama orders tight cemetery security

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has ordered the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to implement tight security for the observance of the Kalag-Kalag 2023.

Rama, who conducted inspections of the cemeteries last Sunday, assessed the things that needed to be looked after in observance of the Kalag-Kalag 2023.

Among those that Rama inspected were the cemeteries of Calamba, Labangon, Lorega, Doña Pepang, Cabantan, Chinese Cemetery, and Carreta.

According to Rama, it has been his program, Oplan Kalag-Kalag since he was the vice mayor, to be implemented during its observance.

With this, Rama assured that the local police are already in place to be on top of the peace and order situation.

"Kung naay mo (offenders inside the cemeteries) walay lutsanan ang atoang sam-ang," said Rama.

"Security-wise, tight jud," he added.

Aside from this, Rama said that during his inspection he was able to check the back portion of Barangay Calamba.

In line with this, Rama ordered the Department of Public Service (DPS) barangay officials and cemetery administrators to also include the clearing of the back portions of the cemeteries.

"Adtoa sa luyo kay naay mga baho didto," said Rama.

Rama also said that the security measures are pivotal in making sure that all parameters are being looked after.

Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government issued advisory for everyone’s safety ahead of the All-Saints’ Day and All-Souls’ Day or Kalag-Kalag among the Cebuanos.

Everyone is reminded to check that no candles left behind lighted while also make sure that all electronic appliances are unplugged and gas stoves properly closed to avoid fire while faucets and also expected to closed to avoid wastage and overbilling.

All valuables are also expected to be secured to avoid attracting thieves from stealing it.

Along with this, all windows and doors should be locked and other areas that could be a possible force entry of thieves.

Should no one will be left behind while going to cemeteries and possibly for a vacation, DILG also advised to inform trusted neighbors for monitoring to avoid any untoward incidents. — (FREEMAN)
