CEBU, Philippines — At least 10 investigators and a prosecutor from Japan visited the regional police headquarters to collect data and file separate murder charges against the mastermind in the killing of a Japanese businesswoman last August 24.

Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) director Chief Superintendent Debold Sinas told reporters in a press conference on Tuesday that the Japanese team will be here for 10 days to gather statements.

They will be sourcing information from the Cebu City Police Office, City Prosecutor’s Office, witnesses, and the suspects.

According to Sinas, Junko Hamada, 71, who has able to establish a furniture business in Talisay City, was considered a prominent figure in Japan.

Her killing caught the attention of Japanese government, Sinas said.

“Duon sa Japan, big thing ang Hamada case. That Hamada incident is a big deal. It stirred the public. Prominent figure ang babaye sa Japan. We have coordinated with them na pud,” he said.

Sinas said the family will file a separate murder charge against her husband, Sinichi, who was identified by the gunman, GB Bertulfo, as the one who plotted the killing.

Bertulfo was arrested in October last year.

Sinas said the motive was money since Junko had cut off financial sustenance to Sinichi who was in Japan.

Sinichi, who had a paramour in the city identified as Mary Jane Aguilar, called her to execute the killing.

Aguilar was arrested in September and she admitted that she bridged Bertulfo and Sinichi’s meeting.

Aguilar is Bertulfo’s former lover. (FREEMAN)
