CEBU, Philippines - With abuse of women and children found to be linked to drugs, authorities are eyeing the possibility of expanding the police's "Oplan Tokhang" to cover suspects of cyberpornography.

No specifics have been discussed just yet but Heda Largo, director of the Cebu Provincial Women Commission, said the idea came about during the courtesy visit of Provincial Police Director, Sr. Supt. Eric Noble, to Vice Governor Agnes Magpale last week.

They are reportedly targeting of implementing the program by March, which happens to be Women's Month.

"Wala pa gyud ang final… kinahanglan sila (CPPO) man gud na mag-una then, maybe, we will come in later pero wala pay definite plans as to when and where and how we are going to do it," Largo said.

During his visit, Noble presented to Magpale CPPO's accomplishment report on the PNP's extensive anti-drug operations under the 'Oplan Double Barrel Alpha.'

Magpale, though, asked for a separate report on crimes against women and children in the province, as these cases were found to be linked to drugs. During raids and rescue operations, the suspects are found to be under the influence of drugs.

"Diha mi motan-aw and mo-collaborate sa CPPO as to unsay angay namo buhaton and intervention para ma-uplift sad namo ning mga babaye nya mahaw-as didto ba," Largo said.

Based on CPPO's report, at least 1,412 of the surrenderers last year were minors and 624 of whom are women.

"Ours is protection and prevention. Kun mahimo dili mahitabo, mao na ang atong buhaton. Sakit na plus dako na ang magasto and then murag tambal na atong himoon," Largo said. (FREEMAN)
