Civil service exams available in Bogo

CEBU, Philippines - The Civil Service Commission in Central Visayas is expanding its test centers for Career Service Examination through the Paper and Pen Test, both for professional and sub-professional levels.

The CSE, which is a prerequisite for people wanting to land a job in the government, will now be catered in Bogo City in northern Cebu, in addition to CSC’s centers in Cebu City, Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental and Tagbilaran City in Bohol.

“Interested applicants, especially those residing in the northern part of Cebu, now have the ease and access of taking the said examination in Bogo City,” said CSC-7 Chief Personnel Specialist Dixie Gonzales.

The Paper and Pencil Test, one of the modes of taking the CSE, is conducted twice or thrice nationwide every year, subject to the approval of the commission.

The upcoming CSE through the Paper and Pen Test will be held on October 23. By then, qualified applicants in northern Cebu can already take the test in the Bogo City center.

Gonzales said filing of application forms for the examination will also be accessible and convenient since CSC personnel will be conducting offsite processing of examination applications in Bogo City and neighboring islands.

The dates and venues, however, are yet to be announced.

Gonzales said applications for the examination are still ongoing at the CSC regional office until September 1. Filing of application closes 45 days before the examination date.

Filing of applications for the CSE through the Paper and Pen Test is available at any CSC regional office in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City or in the different field offices. The applications may also be downloaded via CSC website, www.csc.gov.ph.

Aside from the documentary requirements needed, CSE takers will have to pay P500 as examination fee.

To be qualified, an applicant should be a Filipino citizen of at least 18 years of age and of good moral character; has no criminal record or has not been convicted by final judgment of an offense or crime involving moral turpitude; and has not been dishonorably discharged from military service or dismissed for cause from any civilian position in the government.

Gonzales pointed out that applications may not be accepted earlier than the deadline if the target number of applicants has already been reached.

CSC had informed interested applicants that acceptance of applications is on a “first come, first serve” basis.

The upcoming CSE is open for both the career service professional examinations and sub-professional examinations, regardless of educational attainment.

Professional level examinations are taken by those who seek officer and technical positions while sub-professional level exams are for those who seek non-technical and clerical positions. The passing rate for both is 80 percent.

Passing the CSE is a prerequisite for regularization in civil service. An employee admitted to government service who has not taken the examination can only be hired as a contractual employee. — (FREEMAN)
