Customs exec’s attackers amateur

CEBU, Philippines – The would be assassins of a customs official who was ambushed Wednesday night on his way home in Talisay City were allegedly not professional gunmen.  Superintendent Germano Mallari, Talisay City police chief, said the manner of execution was not done by professional hired guns. According to Mallari, had it been executed by professional guns-for-hire the driver of customs collector Gerardo Campo could have been dead by now.

“Di to mga professional, kay kung mga professional pa g’yud to makuha man g’yud na nila ilang target,” Mallari said.

 Campo, customs collector at the sub-port of Mactan, was ambushed by still unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen at Rabaya Street, Nonoc, Tabunok, Talisay City.

His driver, Proto Bulias, 38, a native of Loon, Bohol, was injured during the incident. Bulias was about to make a u-turn when the gunmen fired upon them.

Despite being hit, Bulias managed to continue driving until they reached Campo’s house prompting the gunmen to flee.

Mallari believes it was Campo that was the target because he used to personally drive his car. It was only during that time when he asked Bulias to drive him home.

Campo said he does not have any idea who could be responsible in trying to kill him because he does not have a known enemy. The police found five spent rounds for caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
