CEBU, Philippines - The first batch of the K to 12 students in the region for the technical vocational track graduated yesterday at the Subangdako Technical Vocational School.

During the graduation, STVS principal Myrna Yu expressed their gratitude to all the stakeholders that helped them in implementing the K to 12 program in their school while integrating the technical vocational system.

Considering that STVS is the first technical vocational school in Region-7 that implemented K to 12, plus the other concerns they encountered in the past year like the damage caused by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake to their classrooms, Yu said that they are overwhelmed to celebrate the graduation of their students.

“Nag-tent ra mi ug nag double shift mi kay naguba man among usa ka building nga hopefully ma-demolish na karong summer. Nagpasalamat pod mi sa among mayor kay dali kaayo mo-respond sa among mga kinahanglan,” she said.

The school acknowledged yesterday the stakeholders that supported the success in the implementation of the Senior High School Program including the Aboitiz Foundation Inc., Mandaue City Government, Wellmade Motors, Parents-Teachers Association, St. James Academy of Skills and Technology, Inc., Danilo San Jose Penaranda Construction, University of Cebu, Metaphil, and Subangdaku Barangay Council.

Department of Education Mandaue City Division Superintendent Virginia Zapanta thanked the stakeholders for the support they extended to provide quality education to the students.

“The recognition this afternoon, it may be a simple gesture, but it is a gesture that comes from the heart. And I know that the true thanksgiving comes from the heart. And you made part in the success of the graduates,” she said.

STVS instructor Raymund Espina said the stakeholders helped provide equipment they needed to enhance the skills and capabilities of the students.

The welding course has the most number of graduates, said Espina. He added that they are eager for the students who will be working since companies like Aboitiz, DSJP Construction, and Metaphil have committed in accepting applications of STVS graduates.

Further, he said that the University of Cebu has a big part in the implementation  of the K to 12 program since they are the only school currently accepting Grade 12 graduates.

“Ang UC, sila nagtabang sa curriculum mapping, nga ang among subject sa Senior High ma-align sa ilaha. So pwede na ang graduates mo-enroll sa ilaha,” Espina said.

Neil Bordalba, Grade 10 graduate of STVS said that he is pleased that technical vocation is now offered in his school because it will help him land a job in the future without spending for college tuition fees.

“Ganahan man unta ko mo-skwela sa college pero wala man makasuporta nako, unya ganahan nako motrabaho para makatabang sa akong pamilya. Maong mapasalamaton ko sa tech voc diri kay pwede ko maka-skwela ug inig human, trabaho dayon,” he added.— /ATO (FREEMAN)
