CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III is the newly elected Honorary Council Chairman of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Cebu Council.

He was inducted along with this year’s new set of officers at the Cebu Cultural Center in Lahug, Cebu City yesterday morning.

The newly-elected officers of the Executive Board are Hernando Streegan, Council Chairman; Atty. Joseph Baduel, First Vice Chairman; Atty. Amadeo Seno Jr. as the Second Vice Chairman, Capt. Galdino Varona as Treasurer, Oscar Canton as Assistant Treasurer, Atty. Manuel Legaspi as Auditor, and Dr. Arden Monisit as Council Commissioner.

“I humbly and gladly accept the responsibility you have given me and I welcome the challenge,” said Davide, in his acceptance speech.

Streegan reportedly said that their annual plan is to raise enough money for rentals and the salary of the BSP staff. Their annual budget is about four million pesos and they get their funds from government agencies, private sector and fund raising activities.

Noel Lisondra, Field Scout Executive of BSP Cebu Council, reported that their priority and vision is to have their own campsite in Valencia, Carcar since it is the central district in the south area.

“Some of our students (scouts) pag moanha sila’g Capitol automatic sa boy scout which is wrong because the Capitol Hills belongs to the national and now the Cebu Council is looking for a campsite in Carcar,” said Lisondra.

Streegan added that the idea is not really a campsite because they are only planning to get 3.5 hectares of land in Carcar.

“Atty. Go of UC (University of Cebu), former chairman of the council, is buying the property for three million and donate it to the boys scout,” he said.

Lisondra explained that to be a member of the BSP, educated children and out-of-school youth can register for P50 in the Boy Scouting Movement in their office located at N. Bacalso Corner Tres de Abril. Parents and Local Government Units may also register for P100.

One of the benefits of the registration and membership in BSP is a financial assistance for emergency and accidents after their documents will be evaluated by the National Office in Manila.

The BSP can also give assistance to the right agencies for disasters and to the victims of calamities and disasters. (FREEMAN)
