Outstanding brgy officials awarded

CEBU, Philippines - The Capitol and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) awarded yesterday the Ten Outstanding Barangay Officials of the Year (TOBOY) and the 2011 Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Award.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led the awarding with DILG provincial director Gerome Gonzales and Provincial Board Member Jose Ribomapil Holganza, Jr. during the yearend general assembly of barangay captains in the province which was held at the Cebu International Convention Center.

The annual search is designed to give recognition to barangay officials who have shown exemplary performance in the discharge of their functions.

The award is categorized into municipal and city levels and each level is composed of punong barangay, kagawad, treasurer, secretary and Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson.

The outstanding barangay officials received plaques of recognition and corresponding cash awards.

For the city category, the awardees are DAS, Toledo City barangay captain Marlon Sayson (P10,000); DAS Toledo City barangay kagawad Ricardo Arias (P8,000); Don Juan Climaco, Toledo City SK chairman Klein Rowen Cantiveros (P5,000); Gairan Bogo city barangay treasurer Mateo Edisan (P8,000); and Carmen, Toledo City barangay treasurer Ana Ricamora (P8,000).

In the municipal category, the awardees are Day-as, Cordova barangay captain Rosa Maria Suan (P10,000); Basdiot, Moalboal barangay kagawad Jinky Hanika (P8,000); Hagnaya, San Remegio SK chairman Joshua Manuel Bacolod (P5,000); Caputatan Norte, Medellin barangay secretary Raul Remulta (P8,000); and Sangat, San Fernando barangay treasurer Dolores Seruela (P8,000).

The Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Award is also aimed to recognize the significant contribution of the Lupon members and the services of the Katarungang Pambarangay (KP) mediators and conciliators as well as to acknowledge Lupon members that have excelled in KP implementation.

For the first to third class municipalities; Barangay Basak, Badian led by barangay captain Roque Celestial won the first place with the amount of P10,000; Barangay Pajo, Daanbantayan led by barangay captain Leticia Perpetua won the second prize with the amount of P7,000 and Barangay Mantalongon, Barili led by barangay captain Norman Anore as the third place with the amount of P5,000 while Barangay Poblacion, Argao led by barangay captain Felix Boltiador was finalist.

For the city category, Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City led by barangay captain Mercedita Apura won the first prize with P10,000; Barangay Cabitoonan, Toledo City led by barangay captain Ophelio Dolino with the amount of P7,000; Barangay Polambato, Bogo City led by barangay captain Narciso Melendres for third prize with the amount of P5,000.

For the fourth to sixth class municipality, the only winner was Barangay Saavedra, Moalboal led by barangay captain Susana Nuevo with the amount of P10,000.

Garcia also announced yesterday that she will be giving P500,000 to each mayor and P250,000 to each of the vice mayors for projects in their respective localities. — (FREEMAN)
