Boundary dispute Labangon, Guadalupe ask council to mediate

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - The barangay captains of Labangon and Guadalupe have asked the intercession of the Cebu City Council to settle their boundary dispute.

Barangay captains Michael Gacasan and Victor Buendia of Guadalupe and Labangon, respectively, made separate requests to the City Council to solve the conflict between the two barangays.

On February 9, Gacasan informed the city officials of the alleged erroneous delineation of some areas in his barangay based on the records at the city assessors office. According to Gacasan, there were areas that are supposed to be within the territorial jurisdiction of Guadalupe but were assigned to Labangon.

He cited particularly in J. Fortich Street, Banawa, Ramon Duterte Street and some other areas in Banawa.

Gacasan asked the city to make the necessary correction of the records so as to reflect on the tax declaration the correct venue and location of real properties.

On February 10, Buendia also sent a communication to Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young  urging the City Council to reevaluate and restudy the previous resolution on the  boundary dispute between his barangay and Guadalupe.

Buendia urged the members of the council to reevaluate the previous resolution which he earlier submitted to the body seeking its intervention. The resolution, according to him, was left unattended.

Young created a committee of three headed Councilor Augustus “Jun” Pe to look into the requests from the two barangay officials.

The boundary conflict between the two barangays has affected the move to divide Guadalupe into two. Buendia earlier filed a petition before the court opposing the creation of a new barangay out of Guadalupe because his residence is located within the disputed boundary.

Buendia argued that as soon as the new barangay is carved out he will lost his residency to Labangon as his place will be included in the new barangay. — (FREEMAN)
